Is Neosporin bad for stitches?
We do not recommend Neosporin or certain antibiotic ointments, because in most cases it is unnecessary and may result in an allergic reaction. Your provider may recommend a topical antibiotic ointment such us Polysporin to apply to the area if indicated.
Is it OK to put Neosporin on a surgical incision?
Please DO NOT use Neosporin, Polysporin or Double or Triple Antibiotic ointment. These products can cause irritation. 5. Apply a bandage or band aid large enough to prevent adhesive from sticking to the open wound.
What do you put on stitches?
Keep the wound bandaged and dry for the first day. After the first day, wash around the wound with clean water 2 times a day. Don’t use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing. You may cover the wound with a thin layer of petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, and a nonstick bandage.
Should you keep stitches covered?

You may need to cover your stitches with a bandage for 24 to 48 hours, or as directed. Do not bump or hit the suture area. This could open the wound. Do not trim or shorten the ends of your stitches.
Can you put antibiotic ointment on dissolvable stitches?
Gently washing your incision in the shower, just like you would wash any other part of your body, is considered the best way to care for your incision. Use a gentle soap and water to clean your incision. Do not use a cream or ointment on your wound unless you have been instructed to do so.
Is it good to put Vaseline on stitches?

Do wounds heal faster covered or uncovered?
A handful of studies have found that when wounds are kept moist and covered, blood vessels regenerate faster and the number of cells that cause inflammation drop more rapidly than they do in wounds allowed to air out. It is best to keep a wound moist and covered for at least five days.
How long does incision take to heal?
Good incision care can help ensure that it heals well and infection doesn’t develop. In most cases, a surgical incision heals in about two weeks. More complex surgical incisions will take longer to heal. If you have other medical conditions or are taking certain medications, your healing time may differ.
Do stitches hurt as they heal?
It is normal to feel pain at the incision site. The pain decreases as the wound heals. Most of the pain and soreness where the skin was cut should go away by the time the stitches or staples are removed. Soreness and pain from deeper tissues may last another week or two.

What happens if stitches get wet?

When should you stop covering a wound?
There are times when leaving a wound uncovered could be the right choice. For example, some small cuts that are unlikely to be rubbed by your clothes or become dirty can be left without a covering. Once a wound has started to heal and has scabbed over, you might also want to leave it uncovered.
