What is arm yarn?
Arm knitting involves using your arms to make the stitches with yarn. While it’s similar to traditional knitting in the movements that you make, there are differences, too.
Can you hand knit with regular yarn?
You can arm knit a blanket with thin yarn, but it requires using multiple strands. The look of the blanket won’t be the same if you use just one strand of thin yarn so you need to make your own bulky yarn. This can be done very easily and with a variety of yarn colors to added effect.
Why is chunky yarn so expensive?
The bulkier your yarn the more expensive they get. If you use chunky yarns, you may need more skeins. This is because most chunky and bulky yarns have short yardage per skein. But if you knit projects like blankets and scarves, you may use more affordable yarns.
How many spools of yarn do I need for a chunky blanket?
The average size blanket is made with 15-25 loops, I made mine using 20 total. More loops will yield a wider blanket. You can also make it longer by adding MORE skeins of yarn. Mine took me about 1.5-2 hours total to make from start to finish (with no breaks).
How long does it take to arm knit a blanket?
The entire blanket should take 1 to 2 hours depending on how fast or slow you arm knit.
