Can I wash my hair with stitches in my head?
Scalp wounds only
Wash your hair with mild shampoo as soon as possible after treatment and then not again until after the stitches have been removed. Dry your hair gently and don’t comb over that area.
How long do stitches on the scalp take to heal?
This is usually in 7 to 14 days. How long you’ll be told to wait depends on where the cut is located, how big and how deep the cut is, and what your general health is like. Your scalp may itch as it heals. This is more likely if the doctor trimmed or shaved your hair in order to place the staples or stitches.

What happens if skin grows over stitches?

Do not sleep on the side of the body with the wound. Do not bend over with your head lower than your heart level. Bend at the knees to stoop down.
How do you treat a scalp wound?
Care for a Minor Scalp Wound
Wash the area with mild soap and water. To stop bleeding, use a sterile cloth and apply pressure for 10 minutes. Ice the area for 20 minutes using ice wrapped in a towel or cloth. Ice the area again after an hour to reduce swelling and pain.
Do stitches bleed when removed?
You may feel slight pressure during this, but removing stitches is rarely painful. Don’t pull the knot through your skin. This could be painful and cause bleeding.
What happens if stitches get wet?
After 48 hours, surgical wounds can get wet without increasing the risk of infection. After this time, you can get your stitches wet briefly with a light spray (such as in the shower), but they should not be soaked (for example, in the bath). Make sure you pat the area dry afterwards.
Can you leave stitches in longer than 10 days?
As a guide, on the face, sutures should be removed in 5-7 days; on the neck, 7 days; on the scalp, 10 days; on the trunk and upper extremities, 10-14 days; and on the lower extremities, 14-21 days. Sutures in wounds under greater tension may have to be left in place slightly longer.
