What type of stitch is used for denim?
Single, double and triple-needle chain stitching is popular in denim clothing and similarly constructed garments. It is usually found on high-stress seams which often incur stretching, such as the center seat seams, yokes, panel seams, inseams, and waistbands. The triple-needle is more often used in workwear.
What thread is best for denim?
Thread. To construct your garment, use an all-purpose polyester thread. For topstitching, switch to an upholstery or topstitching thread. Use a fresh needle when sewing with denim.

What is the thinnest sewing needle size?
Sharps and Betweens
Sharps are the standard sewing needle and range from size 1 to the smallest size 11. Betweens are shorter than sharps and are sized from 3 to 11. Both types have sharp points! Betweens are ideal for professional sewing and techniques such as backstitch or applique.
Can I use regular thread for jeans?
Use a regular all-purpose thread in the bobbin. Use a longer stitch length. If your denim is the typical heavyweight, jeans sort of denim, lengthen your stitches to about 3mm.

What is the thread count of denim?
Adult jeans require approximately 180 metres of thread while children’s jeans require approximately 130 of thread. Depending on the required final quality, alternative thread types may be used. Thread size will determine needle size.
Should you wash denim before sewing?
As with all fabrics, I always suggest pre-washing and shrinking your denim before you start to sew. This is the best practice to remove chemical sizing, soften the denim, and ensure your jeans won’t shrink on you down the road. Wash your denim on the cold cycle with a cup of white vinegar to help preserve the dye.
What is the best dye for denim fabric?
In most cases, 1/2 to 1 bottle of fabric dye should be enough to dye 1 pair of jeans. If your jeans are more than 1 pound (500 g), however, get another bottle of dye. Powdered dye will also work, but you will need to dissolve it in 1 cup (240 mL) of hot water first.
What is a 70 10 needle used for?
